Note to self.
"PoE" modification made to Linksys WRT54GL to allow power to be transferred over an Ethernet cable. The following modification allows the router to be powered on the DC-in, WAN and LAN-1 ports. It also ensures that if powered on any of these two ports, no current is delivered "out" of the other port. Wire the Ethernet cable according to How to wire Ethernet Cables (straight through), and apply +ve power to pins 4 and 5, while wiring GND to 7 and 8. These two pairs are not used in 10/100Mbit cables. I based my information (see pictures) from the following two sites: HOWTO: WRT54GL DIY INTERNAL POE! and Thanks to "ACalcutt" and "toysareforboys" for their well-documented approach. Instead of the "Dell speaker diodes", I had a few 1N4001 and 1N4007's left over from a different project. |
